Saturday Strategy: Gotta Eat…
Food is certainly no problem at Five Corners – the only problem is deciding what kind of eats you want. If your group can’t agree, not to worry. There are options to suit just about every whim and notion. Mix and match will be easy. Crit Food is the order of the day.
Let’s start with the Hospitality Garden. Right at the most exciting corner of the Crit, White Rock Rotary will make sure you don’t go thirsty. And local restaurants, including Emilio Finatti and Damiano’s Pizza, will be serving right from the Garden. If you were late to the party last year, you’ll be glad to know that the Garden’s capacity has been doubled this year. That should limit the disappointment!
Taka Sushi is just behind the Hospitality tent and Clancy’s Tea Cozy, just up Pacific, will be presenting their usual elegant tea service in the afternoon. Laura’s Coffee Corner, situated right at the Pacific/Fir racing battleground, is always a crowd favorite for baking, sandwiches and amazing coffee.
Newcomer Barrique will be closed for a private Tour de White Rock celebration but Onyx Steak House, just across Johnston, will be open. So will Five Corner Vietnamese Restaurant, a few steps up Buena Vista. If your favorite viewing spot is at the top end of the Crit course, you’re still covered. If you want a bit of Hawai’i with your racing, Islands Café, on Johnston at Prospect can top you up with authentic poke and great coffee. Two Guys sushi is right there on Roper east of Johnston. And if you’re just after a cold drink and a bag of chips, Howe’s Market will set you up.
Just remember that you’ll be dancing the night away with Big City Soul, so don’t go eating too much.
